CLPA List of Upcoming DC Area Policy Meetings (January 23rd-January 27th)

This week CLPA will begin its coverage of the Maryland and Virginia General Assembly. Throughout the week, we will highlight legislation discussed in various committees and provide bill analysis if needed.


Last week the Maryland General Assembly received Executive Order - 01.01.2023.02- Reorganization of State Government from new Maryland Governor Wes Moore. CLPA will provide a summary of the Executive Order later in the week. This week, the Maryland General Assembly will have three committee bill hearings, two Prince George’s County Delegation meetings, a Southern Maryland Delegation meeting, and a Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Accountability and Implementation Board meeting.


In the Virginia General Assembly, the Virginia Senate still stands adjourned, but there will be several critical committee meetings. House of Delegates will meet. House of Delegate committee meetings will be held in the Education, Communications, Technology and Innovation, and Post-Secondary and Higher Ed Committees. In the Senate, there will be meetings in the Judiciary, Local Government, Commerce and Labor Committee.


In Washington, DC, it is a slow week. The DC Council has no full Council meetings this week or a State Board of Education meeting. There should be more activity on February 7 in the DC Council when they hold their next Legislative meeting.


This week in Maryland, the Charles County Board of County Commissioners will discuss the Charles County legislative priorities for 2023. The Montgomery Council Council will have a similar state-focused discussion during their State Legislation Committee. Montgomery County will also have a public hearing on their State Transportation Priority Letter Locally Operated Transit Support (LOTS), concerns about the Opportunity Lanes project status, and acknowledge the significant contributions provided in the FY23 State Budget used to fund a few priority projects, like North Bethesda/White Flint area infrastructure and bus rapid transit. In Prince George’s County, the Board of Education will have a work session and public to discuss the FY2024 Budget.


Finally, in Virginia, the Alexandria City Council will hold its Second Legislative Meeting. The agenda, however, is not available to be viewed by the public. If there are other updates will, CLPA will provide them at a later time. The Arlington County Board will meet to discuss a large number of recommendations from the Planning Commission. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will review and vote on several Board Appointments to Citizen Boards, Authorities, Commissions, and Advisory Groups.
