Here is CLPA’s weekly recap of important policy news you may have missed, as well as a list of upcoming meetings. The majority of Washington Metropolitan Area City and County Council have returned from their August recess, as such a number of bills we have been following are being heard in committee.




Statewide Updates


District of Columbia


Mayor Muriel Bowser responded to the decision of four Councilmembers to sign a resolution that stops, for 45 days, the process for approving the three emergency District health plan contracts that authorize the coordination and management of health care services for District residents.

Maryland

Today, Governor Larry Hogan announced more than $12 million in federal highway safety grants as part of a statewide focus to prevent motor vehicle crashes and eliminate roadway fatalities The funds will be dispersed Oct. 1 by the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office to more than 90 organizations and law enforcement agencies.

Virginia


Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam ordered the statue’s removal last summer amid the nationwide protest movement that erupted after the murder of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis. But litigation tied up his plans until the state Supreme Court cleared the way last week.
