CLPA List of Upcoming DC Area Policy Meetings (October 24th -October 28th)

Here are the most essential policy meetings that residents should be paying attention to around the DC area this week.

The DC Council will have a public hearing on several important bills in the Business & Economic Development Committee on Tuesday. Issues such as reproductive health, HIV In-Home Testing, and fertility treatment will be addressed. In Maryland, the Prince George's County Council will vote on the inaugural Prince George’s County Police Accountability Board members as well as new commissioners for the Human Rights Commission. They will also vote on the nomination of current (and outgoing) Councilmember Turner to serve on the County's Office of Ethics and Accountability. In addition to those votes, the Council will also hear a large number of bills this week in its Monday session and a large number of ordinances in its Tuesday session. CLPA will highlight a number of these bills during the week.

The Montgomery County Council on Tuesday will have the final reading on Bill 17-21, which will provide continuing education for police officers and require the police department to collaborate with local educational partners regarding police cadet recruitment and police training. Also, the Montgomery County Board of Education will be discussing their Annual Legislative Priorities as well as amending the 2022-2023 School Year Calendar.

In Virginia, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will hold a session. A large portion of this meeting will be dedicated to Board Appointments to Citizen Boards, Authorities, Commissions, and Advisory Groups and approving a number of action items, such as the approval of Fairfax County’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Goal Update for the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
