CLPA List of Upcoming DC Area Policy Meetings (November 21st-November 25th)

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, there are not too many meetings occurring around the DC Area this week. However, there are still important meetings that residents should pay attention to.

Today at 2:00 pm, the DC Council will hold an additional Health Committee meeting where they will discuss seven bills. Amongst this package of bills is the. potentially controversial, B24-0830, Protecting Health Professionals Providing Reproductive Health Care Amendment Act of 2022. If enacted, this legislation would prohibit disciplinary measures against licensed health professionals solely for providing abortion and reproductive health care services to patients who live in states where the services are illegal. CLPA will be tracking this bill and will provide updates as need be.

In Maryland, there are no Council Council or Board of Education meetings this week; however, in Virginia, a few meetings may generate interest. The Alexandria City Council will have a Legislative Meeting where they will hold a public hearing on the Fiscal Impact Study of the Tentative Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Alexandria Chapter of the Southern States Police Benevolent Association (SSPBA). The Council will then vote on a resolution "to make a good faith commitment to appropriate funding necessary for the City to meet its obligations."

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will continue work on its Draft 2023 Legislative Program, which lists the County's legislative priorities for the General Assemble. The document includes the Board's overarching priorities, initiatives/budget priorities, position statements, and useful fact sheets for the General Assembly to utilize. During the same meeting, the Board will discuss the County's recommended strategies and principles for the 118th Congress. The Fairfax County School Board has similar legislative activity this week. They will hold a Legislative Briefing to discuss their 2023 Legislative Program. The program lays out the School Board 2023 State and Federal policy priorities as well as the 2023 Joint Legislative Priority Positions of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and Fairfax County School Board.
