Prince George's County



Prince George's County Council


The Prince George's County Council met today at 10 am. Among the notable legislative items on the agenda were the first readings of several bills, including CB-053-2024, which proposes revisions to the Better Bag Bill, aiming to eliminate plastic carryout bags at retail establishments. Another bill, CB-054-2024, seeks to establish the Reproductive Healthcare Facilitation and Protection Fund to support access to reproductive healthcare in the county.


The session also included public hearings for bills eligible for third reading and enactment. Among these, CB-003-2024, concerning mandatory lactation rooms in county buildings, and CB-004-2024, revising parental leave eligibility for county employees, were discussed. Both bills have progressed through several readings and committee recommendations. Additionally, CB-009-2024, which aims to establish a 9-1-1 voluntary emergency registry to aid first responders, and CB-012-2024, which proposes procurement practices revisions, were also up for final readings. The council also considered resolutions like CR-012-2024 to establish a procurement regulations workgroup and CR-015-2024 to appropriate supplementary funds for various county departments.


Prince George's County Board of Education


The Prince George's County Board of Education will not meet this week.

 

Virginia



Virginia General Assembly:

The Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate have adjourned for the 2024 session. They will be back in session in January 2025.

Alexandria City



Alexandria City Council:

The Alexandria City Council will not have a public meeting this week.


Alexandria City Board of Education


The Alexandria City Board of Education will meet at 6:30 pm on Thursday this week. During the meeting, the Board will finalize and approve the budget for Fiscal Year 2025 (FY 2025) for the County Funds (CF). They will also approve the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) budget for FY 2025 to FY 2034, which outlines the Board's spending on projects like building construction, and major equipment purchases over a ten-year period. The Board will also hear an update on the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund, which was established to help schools respond to the impact of COVID-19.

Arlington County




Arlington County Board

The Arlington County Board will hold a Special Board meeting on Thursday at 2:00 pm. They are set to review an ordinance to update the County Code, create a Stormwater Utility, repeal the Sanitary District Tax, adopt a resolution for Stormwater Fee Relief, and extend the payment deadline for real estate taxes and stormwater utility fees. The proposal includes setting the annual stormwater utility rate at $258 per Equivalent Residential Unit (ERU) and establishing a fee relief program for eligible senior and disabled residents, as well as veterans and their surviving spouses. Originally approved last December, it was delayed due to advertising errors. The updated proposal aims to provide dedicated funding for stormwater management and eliminate the Sanitary District Tax.


Arlington County School Board


The Arlington County School Board will meet on Thursday at 5 pm. The regular meeting will include the approval of minutes, personnel actions, a transfer to the OPEB Trust Fund, ESEA program applications, and changes to School Board Advisory Committees. The Board will have an update on the FY 2024 3rd Quarter Fiscal Monitoring Report and will adopt the FY 2025 Final Budget and an emergency procurement award for Barcroft Elementary School roof replacement. Information items to be discussed include the proposed FY 2025-34 Capital Improvement Plan, a deed of easement at Langston Brown High School with McDonald's, the adoption of new social studies and Spanish resources, and the Superintendent's proposed implementation and monitoring elements for the Strategic Plan.
