CLPA List of Upcoming DC Area Policy Meetings (June 12-June 16)

This week, various local government bodies across the DC metropolitan area are convening for legislative meetings to discuss and deliberate on important policies and budgets. Here's CLPA weekly summary of the upcoming meetings and the legislation or policies of interest being addressed.

The DC Council is scheduled to hold its legislative meeting on Tuesday, June 12 at 11:00 am. Of particular importance is the B25-0202 - Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Support Act of 2023, which will be discussed during the session. The Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Support Act of 2023 would provide $10.6 billion of local resources, resulting in a total of $10.6 billion in spending. In addition to the Local funds, the proposed General Fund budget, which encompasses dedicated taxes and special purpose fund revenue, is estimated to have expenditures of $12 billion.

In Maryland, the Board of Charles County Commissioners will convene on Tuesday, June 13 at 9:00 am. The meeting will cover various legislative proposals, including the 2023 Local Legislative Proposals Package. Additionally, the Charles County Board of Education will hold a board meeting on the same day at 1:00 pm to finalize the FY2024 Budget.

The Montgomery County Council will meet on Tuesday, June 13 at 9:00 am. The council will discuss several pieces of legislation, including Expedited Bill 25-23, which pertains to development impact taxes for transportation and public school improvements. Furthermore, Bill 22-23 addresses zoning text amendments for short-term residential rentals, and Expedited Bill 27-23 repeals the provisions in the County Code that provide for and govern the Policing Advisory Commission. The establishment of the Police Accountability Board (PAB) and the Administrative Charging Committee (ACC) is duplicative of the pre-existing PAC, making the PAC unnecessary. The council will also conduct an interview with the County Executive's nominee for the Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC). Meanwhile, the Montgomery County Board of Education will not hold a full meeting this week.

The Prince George's County Council is set to meet on Tuesday, June 13 at 1:30 pm. The agenda includes discussions on CB-049-2023, which deals with supplementary appropriations, and CB-042-2023, the Prince George's County Senior Housing Assistance Pilot Program Act of 2023. Conversely, the Prince George's County Board of Education will not hold a full meeting this week.

In Virginia, the Alexandria City Council's first legislative meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 13 at 6:00 pm. Simultaneously, the Alexandria City Board of Education will hold a school board meeting on Thursday, June 15 at 6:30 pm. The Arlington County Board will convene on Tuesday, June 13 at 3:00 pm. The Arlington County School Board, however, will not have a full meeting this week. There will be no full Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting this week. Nevertheless, the Fairfax County School Board will hold a meeting on Thursday, June 15 at 7:00 pm, where they will discuss their strategic plan.

Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to stay informed about these proceedings and engage with their local representatives to contribute to the decision-making process and ensure their voices are heard. CLPA will provide continual updates throughout the week on any new development here on our site, on Twitter: @LocalPolicyCTR and on Facebook @localpolicycenter.
