CLPA List of Upcoming DC Area Policy Meetings (October 16-October 20)

In the week ahead, residents in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area can anticipate a busy schedule of meetings and hearings by local government bodies.


The DC Council is set to hold a Committee of the Whole meeting, where they'll discuss several important bills. These include the District of Columbia Crime Victimization Survey Act, Access to Emergency Medications Amendment Act, and Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Amendment Act. These bills address pressing concerns related to public safety and healthcare access in the District.


In Maryland, the Board of Charles County Commissioners is gearing up for a series of meetings. They will introduce Proposed Bill 2023-13, "Property Tax Credit for Disabled Law Enforcement and Rescue Workers," and Proposed Bill 2023-14, "Property Tax Credit for Public Safety Officers." These initiatives aim to recognize and support the contributions of essential workers in the county.


In Montgomery County, the Council will hold public hearings on several bills, including those related to the county's minimum wage and contracts and procurement for minority-owned businesses. These discussions are critical for shaping the county's economic and social policies. Prince George's County is set to tackle significant issues, including cannabis use, criminal record screening standards, and more. The County Council will delve into these matters during their meeting, showcasing their commitment to addressing contemporary challenges.


Over in Virginia, the Alexandria City Council is taking a breather this week, with no public meetings on the agenda. However, the City School Board has a special session to appoint members to the Collective Bargaining Committee. Both Arlington County and Fairfax County Boards and School Boards are taking a break from public meetings this week. It's an opportunity for residents and officials to regroup and prepare for upcoming sessions.

District of Columbia



DC Council

The DC Council will hold a Committee of the Whole meeting tomorrow at 11 am. At the hearing, they will discuss:

  • Bill 25-51, District of Columbia Crime Victimization Survey Act of 2023

  • Bill 25-266, Access to Emergency Medications Amendment Act of 2023

  • Bill 25-244, Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Amendment Act of 2023

DC State Board of Education

There will be a public meeting of the DC State Board of Education on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.


 

Maryland


Maryland General Assembly:

Both the Maryland House of Delegates and the Maryland Senate are currently adjourned and not in session.

Board of Charles County Commissioners

The Board of Charles County Commissioners will meet tomorrow at 9 am and Wednesday at 4 pm for a closed session hearing.

There will not be a meeting of the Charles County Board of Education this week.

Montgomery County Council

The Montgomery County Council will meet tomorrow at 9:15 am and will have public hearings on:

  • Bill 35-23, County Minimum Wage - Tipped Employees

  • Bill 37-23, Contracts and Procurement - Minority Owned Businesses - Sunset Date - Amendments

Montgomery County Board of Education

The Montgomery County Board of Education will not have a public meeting this week.

Prince George's County Council


The Prince George's County Council will convene its meeting tomorrow at 10 am, featuring several noteworthy bills and resolutions. These include:

The Prince George's County Board of Education will have a virtual public hearing this Thursday at 6 pm. During this meeting, the council will discuss plans to phase out of the Crossland High School neighborhood (comprehensive education) boundary.
