This week in the DC Area, there will be ongoing budget discussions related to the FY24 budget. The Montgomery County Council and Board of Charles County Commissioners will be addressing budget issues, as well as the Arlington County School Board, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, and Charles County Board of Education. The final adoption of the FY24 budget will take place in the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
Additionally, two bills will be monitored and analyzed by CLPA.
The first, CB-056-2023-Community Policing: Data and Reports, will require the Prince George’s County Police Department to make sure data and reports available to the County Council and the general public regarding police activities and statistics such as the demographics of the Prince George’s County Police Department, the number of instances alleging use of force, and complaints regarding police officers. The second bill, Bill 25-0119, the “Healthy Homes and Residential Electrification Amendment Act of 2023,” would create a new program, the Healthy Homes Program, which would install electric appliances for low and moderate-income households and prohibit the DC Housing Authority from installing gas appliances during conversions through the Rental Assistance Demonstration Program.
